CARNAL MINDS AND COSMIC LIES
Duality it the greatest lie ever told. Never before has something so damaging to our psyches defined, not only our history, but our very way of thinking as well. This ‘either-or’ ego-minded mentality rests at the root of most of our problems today. Look at the classic example of duality in the Christian Bible. Where is it first introduced?
“God knows well that when you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, who know good and evil.”
-Gen. 3:5(NAB)
Humankind immediately ‘awakens’ to their nakedness and hides themselves out of shame. We are the cast out of the garden and trapped in the physical realm. We see this same narrative echoed throughout the Ancient Mysteries from Venus/Aphrodite to the eastern tradition story of the creation of the world of illusion with Gula-Bau and the Fruit of Enlightenment. The story is always the same- we lose our conscious contact with the Divine and become enamored in the sensory world.
Carrying on with the Biblical narrative, what happens directly after the fall of man? Brother slains brother after being dejected. This completes our separation from God and marks a shift in human consciousness, from our being aware of our cosmic unity to an individual awareness of the dual nature of our existence. The egos birth is complete.
Think of the damaging effects our egotistical attitudes have had on our lives and the lives of other. We shut down around opinions we don’t like in the realm of politics all the time. However, if spiritually speaking, the Universe is a unity then how do we get so divided and mixed up with religion?
The mystic sits down quietly to pray and meditate, In doing so they tune into that unity at the center of all things and find a lasting peace. Naturally, they write those feelings of peace down and share it through their cultural lenses. A one-true God at the center of all creation is then echoed across the globe as movements form and disciples are born. Then, those disciples come in contact with another group of followers whos Guru has had the same realization of the Cosmic Unity being told with their own cultural spin. Wars have been fought for this exact reason throughout the ages.
This ego-mind also breeds the “I don’t need you! I am the center of my OWN universe” mentality running rampant in our secular society today. As this narcissistic impulse eats away at our compassions it’s easy to see why we’ve become lovers of things who use people. Now, when even our most pious religious leaders can’t see past conflict of doctrine it’s not difficult to understand why “worldly” people are so turned off by the subject of spirituality and shut down.
So, spiritually minded people, we should lead by example and embrace everyone with love. The question then is how?
OG PAUL SAYS TO LOVE BIG
“Now the natural person does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of God, for to him it is foolishness, and he cannot understand it, because it is judged spiritually. The spiritual person, however, can judge everything but is not subject to judgement by anyone.”
-1 Corinthians 2:14-15 (NAB)
In Paul’s doctrine we see the dual-minded nature of humankind explained as natural (outer being) and supernatural (inner being). The natural person being wrapped up in the sensory world that perceives the things pertaining to their physical existence. When we are called to awaken to a higher level of being the pneuma- God’s Spirit- begins to guide us and our perceptions mature.
We evolve. See, the spiritual person would not judge another persons belief because of the understanding that passing judgement- or withholding grace- bars their own freedom from judgement. Jealousy and rivalry, sectarianism; all that nonsense actually works against us. The key then is to stop looking at how our beliefs are different and start finding the common ground. After all, “if I plant and you water is it not God that grows?”
I want to leave you with one last tidbit on acting in love which is the true path of our spiritual selves:
“If I speak in human and angelic tongues but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing symbol. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
-1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (NAB)
Peace be with you all.
